Mother of Pearls!
When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. Matthew 13:46
At the heart of Jesus' teaching are the parables.
Parables often leave us hanging with a picture, a concept, a thought and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit we are allowed to turn it over in our hearts, as we distil the truth behind the words.
For example, the passion of the pearl merchant, driven by his obsession with the mother of all pearls!
He will sell, not only his pearl collection, but 'everything he has', to buy it.
Either this merchant has lost all his business sense completely and is infatuated by this one item,
OR …
He sees an opportunity to make the greatest business move of his life.
It really doesn't matter as far as the point of the parable is concerned.
Jesus is commending the Passion in his heart ...
the deep conviction that drives him forward into radical activity.
Those who have tasted of the Kingdom of God are driven in their pursuit of its entirety.
Our relationship with our God consumes us and directs our every step.
'I will become even more undignified than this ….' 2 Samuel 6:22
